Can I Use An Ovulation Stick To Get Pregnant With A Girl Baby?

By: Sandy Dean:  I sometimes hear from people who are trying to get pregnant with a girl baby who ask if “peeing on a stick” is the best way to go.  There are a couple of different tests that work this way.  The first one is a pregnancy test, (but when you are trying to become pregnant in the first place, it is too early for this one.)  The second is an ovulation test and so that is what I always assume is being asked about.

An ovulation kit often has a “stick” which measures your urine for an LH surge. When it detects this, that means that ovulation is on its way or has already occurred.  So people DO use ovulation “sticks” to tell them when they are have ovulated and have therefore reached the window where they are most likely to get pregnant.  But there is a bit of a catch.  Using a urine or “stick” ovulation predictor works great if you do not care which baby gender that you get and when you just want to become pregnant as soon as possible.

But if you have a strong preference as to your baby gender, you need to be a little more careful.  If you want a boy baby, then the stick type can still work well.  Since the stick type shows you ovulation once it has occurred and this is the timing that you need for boy babies,  the stick type will often work fine if you are trying for a son.

However, if you want a girl baby, or if you just want more of a warning even when you want a boy, I believe that there is a better option.  And that is the saliva predictor.  Rather than urinating on a stick, you spit out some saliva on something that looks a little like a microscope slide.  These tend to give you more of a lead time.  They will tell you days before ovulation actually happens – which is exactly what you need when you want a girl baby.  And if you want a boy, the saliva type will still tell you when ovulation occurs, it just gives you more of a warning that it is on its way.  With the stick type, you’re being notified that ovulation has either already happened or it is going to happen VERY soon.  Not everyone has the luxury of being able to act that fast.  Some of us need more time to plan.  (This can be true especially if you are trying to get the right PH before you attempt to conceive – but more about that below.)

So yes, the “pee on the stick” type of ovulation predictors can help you to pinpoint your ovulation window.  But if you want previous warning (especially if you are trying for a girl) many find the saliva predictors more appropriate.

Timing is important.  But there are other things that matter also.  You’ll want to to also be aware of the optimal PH as well as the optimal sexual positions. I’ve outlined this a little more if you’d like some more free information.  If you want a boy baby, see  http://conceive-a-boy-baby.comIf you want a girl, see
