How Much Does It Cost To Make Sure You Have A Girl Or Boy Baby?

By: Sandy Dean:  I often hear from people who are extremely serious about getting the baby gender that they want.  Many say that they are willing to do whatever is necessary in order to make this happen.  And some will ask me how much money is needed to ensure that they get the boy or girl that they want.  I heard from someone who said: “it may sound shallow, but I am determined that my first born is going to be a girl baby.  I feel like I will have more of a meaningful bond with a girl.  How much would it cost to make absolutely sure that this is what I get?”  I will try to answer  this question in the following article.

The Cost Of Gender Selection Depends Upon Which Method You Use:  There are a couple of different ways that you can go about trying to get the gender that you want.  You can accomplish this by medical intervention which means that you elicit the help of a medical professional to ensure that you get the gender that you want.  Or, you can try more inexpensive methods at home.  Of course, there are pros and cons to each method.  The medical intervention method gives you the best chance of success but it is also very expensive. The at home method has more room for error but it also very inexpensive.

The Cost Of PGD Or Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis: When you use medical intervention, what you are really doing is having a doctor test embryos that are the result of in vitro fertilization before transferring them to the uterus.  So the medical staff would be determining the baby’s sex before they are implanted it into the uterus.  Then, only the gender that is desired would be used.  So in this particular scenario where the couple wanted a daughter, only girl embryos would be implanted.  The costs of the actual tests varies depending upon where you live.  But from my research, I am finding estimates in ranges for $3,000 – $5,000.  Now, this is just the PGD test.  This is not including the in vitro fertilization before the test and the cost of implantation.  These procedures can approach several thousand dollars depending upon where you live.  So the cost of all procedures taken together can be well over several thousand dollars. Of course, if none of this results in a successful pregnancy, then you have to start the process all over again with additional costs.

The Cost Of Trying To Choose Your Baby’s Gender At Home:  If medical intervention is too expensive, there are things that you can do at home to greatly increase your chances of getting the gender that you want.  In order to do this, you will need to know when you ovulate since certain conception timing favors girl babies while a different time frame favors a boy baby.   Also, you will need to know your PH since an alkaline PH favors a boy and an acidic PH favors a girl.  If your PH isn’t optimal for your desired gender, then you will need to either tweak your diet, use douches, or both.  But you can’t know this until you test.  Ovulation test kits are around the $20 range depending on which type you buy. (I like the saliva monitors like are shown here.)  PH testing strips costs are generally less than $10.  So everything that you need should be under around $30.

If money is not an issue, obviously the medical intervention route gives you the highest success rate.  But if the at home methods are done correctly, they can greatly increase your chances of being successful also.

If you have your heart set on a girl or boy baby and need help with the at home methods, I’ve put together a few websites that might be useful.  There’s more detailed instructions and resources that might make this process a little easier.  You can check out or depending on which is applicable to you.
